The government is taking special measures to combat the negative impacts on the Maldives’ tourism industry, declared tourism minister Moosa Zameer on Monday.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Hotel Asia Exhibition 2016, the largest trade fair in the Maldives, the minister disclosed plans to hold a conference to determine the conditions of the Maldives’ tourism market. Minister Zameer also noted that Public Relations companies have been established in various destinations to counter the negative propaganda being spread regarding the country.
“One of the purposes of the conference is to compile the data for next year’s marketing plan,” said the minister, adding that the information will be accumulated via talks with important markets and companies of the tourism sector.
“In addition, we’ve established PR firms with high priority given to important markets where negative propaganda is rampant. We need a marketing plan to bring in results for that.”
The minister stated that a variety of activities have been planned for this year’s World Tourism Day and the Visit Maldives Year 2016 tourism promotion campaign, which includes a special conference with several entities of the industry.
Minister Zameer also highlighted various ongoing projects to expand tourism in the Maldives, such as the development of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) to accommodate seven million passengers annually.
“On top of that, we’re currently developing new resorts and domestic airports, which will also ease travelling to Male airport (INIA),” he said.
