Police are investigating a case where a child sleeping at home was forced to go to an abandoned location, where they were stripped, assaulted, and blackmailed. The perpetrators took video footage of the incident and threatened to share it on social media.

The child's mother stated in a Facebook post that the child had been sleeping at home, when the perpetrators forced their way into the home through a window and took them away by force.

The child was forced to go with them under death threats, and once taken to an isolated area in the island, was stripped and beaten with sticks. Video was taken of the attack and the perpetrators demanded that the child pay them, with threats of releasing the video on social media if they refused, the mother said.

She said that the video had been shared on an Instagram group with members of a similar youth age group, and the child had been issued death threats. She expressed concerns that as the perpetrators are also underage, they might get away without proper legal repercussions in the name of protecting their rights.

The mother wrote in her post, "Is there a more serious crime than this? As this was done by a group led by a child in Grade 9, his rights will end up taking precedence. How will I get justice for my child?"

In the post, the mother also shared screenshots of interactions between the child and the group, which included foul language, demands for money and death threats.

Police said that the social media post had come to their notice, and that they are working to gather information from relevant authorities.
