Police are investigating a case where former Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali is accused of having deleted her official emails.

Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan said that last week the Education Ministry had filed a case with them alleging that Dr Aishath Ali, Education Minister during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, had deleted all emails on her official email account.

Shifan said that the Ministry had requested that the investigation be expedited.

An official from the Education Ministry said that they still have emails of Ministers who had served prior to Aishath.

"But we noticed that the last Minister had deleted all her emails," the official said.

While the Police are investigating this case, she has claimed on a post on Facebook today that a person has attempted accessing her email.

She said that the official email had been deactivated on the last day of the previous administration. However, she raised questions why someone had attempted to access this email account at around 13:15 hours yesterday.

"If any persons received an email from this account after November 17, 2023, then please note that that email was not sent by me," Aishath stated.
