Farhad appointed as member to Judicial Service Commission

Farhad, the longest-serving judge in the Civil Court, won with 91 votes, while his closest contender, Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Ihusan, garnered 71 votes.

Civil Court Judge Farhad Rasheed has been appointed to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as a representative of lower Courts, elected by the Courts.

Farhad, originally from Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Fiyori was sworn into office by Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain and witnessed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Five candidates competed in the election held by the Department of Judicial Administration last month. Farhad, the longest-serving judge in the Civil Court, won with 91 votes, while his closest contender, Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Ihusan, garnered 71 votes.

Farhad has been a judge at the Civil Court since 2013 and has served in the judiciary for approximately 20 years.

Farhad, the current longest serving judge in the Civil Court, won with 91 votes. His closest rival, Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Ihusan, received 71 votes.

The JSC comprises 10 members, including a member of parliament, the Speaker of Parliament, a High Court judge, a Supreme Court judge, a lower court judge, a public appointee, the President of the Civil Service Commission, the Attorney General, a member appointed by the President, and a representative of lawyers.
