Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has said that the public holds strong confidence in Maldivian specialists.
Nazim emphasized the importance of local doctors in the health sector while speaking with the graduates of the first batch of doctors trained at Maldives National University. He said that local doctors are especially needed to develop health services across the atolls.
The Minister said that the public places immense trust in local specialists in hospitals, and urged the doctors to consider specializing in areas that interest them.
MNU started training doctors in affiliation with Malaysia's Kebangsaan University in September, 2018. From the first batch, 21 students graduated on October 31.
All 21 doctors are currently working in IGMH in internships.
Minister Nazim appealed to the graduates to continue serving the nation after their studies, and implored to do work that will have a positive social impact.
