Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has said that while the six months granted for vehicles in the Male' area registered in other zones to change their registrations to the Male' area expired, many remain unchanged. Due to this, the ministry has decided to extend a further window within which to do so.

In August last year, HDC granted the Transport Ministry a 40,000 sqft land near the MACL Flats in Hulhumale' Phase 2 for the parking of four wheeled vehicles registered to the wrong zones.

At the time, the ministry granted a period of 40 days within which vehicle owners can take wrongly registered vehicles to the designated parking lot. It was announced then that any vehicles not taken there would be towed. Owners were required to keep their vehicles at this parking lot while they changed the registration within a six month window.

However, even at the end of this period, a large number of vehicles remain parked there. Asked about this, a ministry official said that some vehicles were not registered by the given deadline. They are now being extended a further window within which to complete the process.
