Dr Abdulla Fairoosh, formerly the State Minister at the Ministry of Higher Education, has been transferred to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.

Confirming the change, Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology spokesperson Fathimath Rifaath stated that Fairoosh began working at the Homeland Ministry this past Sunday. He now holds the post of State Minister at the ministry.

Fairoosh has held senior positions at the Maldives Police Service, most recently serving as Assistant Commissioner of Police. He retired from the police service in January 2021 and has since worked closely with Maldives National Party (MNP) President Mohamed Nazim during the last presidential election.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu recently announced the removal of seven state ministers, 43 deputy ministers, 109 senior political directors, and 69 political directors to reduce state expenditure. This move is expected to save MVR 5.7 million per month from the state budget, he said.

The President has ordered the removal of these political appointees within the next 15 days.

As of July 2013, there were a total of 1,249 political employees, according to information shared by 16 agencies, including the President’s Office.
