Two Indians have been arrested for smuggling drugs into Maldives, and has been placed in remand in custody for a period of thirty days.
The two men were arrested after an operation at Velana International Airport, conducted after Maldives Customs Service found them to be suspicious.
From their luggage, a quantity of drugs sufficient to consider the act as drug trafficking were found. As this is a major criminal offence, they were arrested and taken to court for remand hearing.
The court decided yesterday to place them in custody for thirty days.
The two, however, claim that the drugs do not belong to them, but were handed over to them by a third party. The court, however, decided there is sufficient evidence against them to hold them in custody.
