Normalization Committee is presently seeking a new General Secretary for Football Association of Maldives (FAM).

The post is currently filled by Mohamed Jaushan Shareef, who had been in the post even during the latter days of office of former President of FAM Bassam Adeel Jaleel, who is now facing corruption and money laundering charges.

The committee is now working on seeking a new General Secretary through a public announcement on the advice of FIFA, Mihaaru News reports.

Jaushan, also a Sport Lawyer, said earlier that he was remaining in the position on request from the Normalization Committee Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor and FIFA.

There has been much public criticism about the committee's decision to continue keeping Jaushan in the position, citing his presence during the days of Bassam.

Some of the strongest criticism came from Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) who contested against Bassam in the most recent association elections. He alleges that Jaushan had been leading actions against regulations in the last two association elections.

During Bassam's time as President, the longest serving General Secretary of FAM was Hussain Jawaz. Jawaz resigned from the post last November after allegations of corruption and money laundering were raised against Bassam. Jawaz now serves as a Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Art.
