Ministry of Education has reiterated its directive for schools not to hold any activities during the school term holidays, which begin next week.

Since the start of the new academic year in August, the ministry has prohibited teachers from being called to schools during term holidays and prohibited students from participating in school-organized activities during these breaks.

However, some parents have raised concerns that some schools are still conducting extra activities during the holidays.

Speaking to Mihaaru News, Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu said that all activities involving students and teachers during the holidays are strictly prohibited. State Minister Hussain Saeed Mohamed added that schools are not permitted to organize or participate in any such activities during this time.

While associations may organize their own camps or activities, these must be self-organized and conducted independently of schools.

"No school in the country is permitted to hold any activity, and teachers are not allowed to participate in the name of the school," the State Minister said.

The ministry is also working to reduce the workload of teachers by enforcing rules that prevent them from working beyond official hours. Schools are further instructed not to create separate Viber groups for communication between teachers and parents.

The second-term mid-break will begin on December 22, with schools scheduled to reopen on January 5.
