Housing Ministry ordered Gdh. Thinadhoo City Council's announcement from last week inviting the public to apply for 200 housing units in the city to be voided.
Mihaaru received a copy of the letter sent by the Housing Ministry to the Thinadhoo City Council on Thursday.
The letter, signed by Deputy Minister Hassan Visal, said the construction, allocation and work, and verification of housing units is within the mandate of the ministry.
He further said that the housing units developed in various regions of the country would have to be handed over in accordance with the rules endorsed by the ministry.
As such, the letter reminded the council that the 200 housing units currently under construction in Thinadhoo are also under the supervision of the ministry, and added that before announcing applications for the unit, the council should have to finalise the allocation policies and proceed with the application process under the ministry's guidance.
However, the city council opened the housing units to the public without notifying the ministry and without obtaining permission, the letter said.
Based on this, ministry told the council to cancel the announcement.
