Issue of Rasmaadhoo telecom antenna raised to President Muizzu

The antenna was set up on leased land under a 15-year agreement with the then Atoll Ministry. However, four years after the contract expired, and since then, Rasmaadhoo residents have opposed the agreement's renewal, calling for the antenna be relocated.

During the ongoing visit to Raa atoll, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu addressed the long-standing issue of the telecommunications antenna in Rasmaadhoo, initially installed in 2005 by Wataniya (now Ooredoo).

The antenna was set up on leased land under a 15-year agreement with the then Atoll Ministry. However, four years after the contract expired, and since then, Rasmaadhoo residents have opposed the agreement's renewal, calling for the antenna be relocated.

Rasmaadhoo Council President Mohamed Asif said that despite discussions with Ooredoo and the Local Government Authority (LGA), no resolution has been reached in the past four years. Asif said that the council inherited the expired contract upon being elected and has since been in discussion for the relocation of the antenna as requested by the community.

Addressing the people of Rasmaadhoo, President Muizzu said that he would resolve the matter and assured that upon returning to Male', he would initiate discussions with Ooredoo and work on securing the necessary funds to relocate the antenna.

"We will resolve the issue of Rasmaadhoo antenna. After discussions with Ooredoo, there are two issues to resolve. We will find a solution to obtain the funds to relocate the antenna," President Muizzu said.

In addition to the antenna issue, President Muizzu announced plans for other development projects in Rasmaadhoo including water and sewerage projects, beach protection initiatives, resolving housing issues, establishing a laboratory at the Rasmaadhoo Health Centre and completing work on the school buiding.
