Road Development Corporation (RDC) has commenced repairs on Ameenee Magu yesterday.
The company said that they are repairing the area in front of Maafannu Stadium where the tarred street has multiple potholes and other damage.
Yesterday, RDC employees dug up the road in the affected area. They will be leveling the street and laying the asphalt mixture.
Construction of Ameenee Magu was done by RDC during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration in 2022. The repairs were completed and the road opened for use early last year.
MVR 84 million from the State budget had been used for laying tar and constructing Ameenee Magu. There were allegations at the time that the project had been overpriced, and implemented with low quality materials.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu earlier announced that reconstruction of roads in Male' and ViliMale' through a grant from China will be commenced early this year. Late last year, a technical team from China visited to conduct a feasibility study.
Minister of Construction, Infrastructure and Housing Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said that the reconstruction of these roads will bring about a permanent resolution to issues faced currently such as flooding.
