Work commenced to establish an Islamic library in Salman Mosque

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has declared today that efforts have now commenced to construct a contemporary library inside the King Salman Mosque located in capital Male' City.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the President's Office on current initiatives' undertaken by the Ministry, Shaheem said that President Dr Mohamed highly prioritizes the ongoing work to establish modern Islamic libraries across the country.

Therefore, the library will be established at the Salman mosque by January next year, said the Minister.

He further revealed that all books stored at the library in Islamic Center, which ceased operations in recent years were also stored away.

"We will change this and establish a physical national library at King Salman Mosque - and equip the premise with modern resources that facilitate smoother research procedures for library users," said Shaheem.

He said that the government aims to open the library for public use by January next year.

Islamic centers in local islands across the nation will also be equipped with libraries and opened for public use, he further added.

"The Ministry will establish libraries in these places. Libraries will be constructed in Thinadhoo Islamic Center, Ungoofaaru Islamic Center, the center being developed in Dhidhdhoo and Hithadhoo alongside the Center for Holy Quran being established in Fuvahmulah," the Minister ensured.

An e-library dedicated to Islamic knowledge has also been introduced on the Ministry's website for the first time, Shaheem noted, adding that the books at the library can also be downloaded through the website.
