General Secretary of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Mohamed Jaushan Shareef, has stated that although the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Association concluded its term today, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has not yet informed FAM of the next course of action.

Bassam Adeel Jaleel, who remains suspended from all FAM activities, was elected for a second term as President of the Association on July 2, 2020. This term is set to end today.

The term of FAM's Vice President, Ali Umar who has been fulfilling the role of President in Bassam's absence is also set to conclude today.

Jaushan assured that FIFA remains informed of this, however revealed that they have yet to inform FAM of the decision they reached on the matter.

A delegation from FIFA had visited Maldives on April to assess the state of the country's football scene. This delegation, comprised of representatives from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as well as FIFA had deliberated with administrative stakeholders of football including football clubs excluded from the FAM congress held earlier on February.

The Commissioner had further affirmed that that that the government will not intervene in matters concerning FAM.

He said at the time that the delegation that visited Maldives remains assured that the Sports Commissioner's Office will provide all necessary cooperation and support for the decisions they reach and further affirmed that he had shared all matters concerning FAM with the delegation.

"We are not further involved in matters related to FAM as FIFA and AFC are investigating the issues, and they have assured us that they will inform us of their decision very soon," said Tholal during the press conference held in May.
