President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced today that the finalized list of flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme will be published this Thursday.

Speaking in the island of Hulhudheli today in his official visit to Dhaalu atoll, the President made this announcement, adding that the list will also state those who are not receiving flats and the reasons for that.

He said that the list will be published after a press conference that will be held by the Housing Minister on Thursday.

A window for submitting complaints to the list will also be provided, he said.

President Muizzu emphasized that housing is one of his most key pledges, assuring that he will resolve housing difficulties justly and fairly.

The list of recipients of the 4000 flats in Hulhumale' was initially published by the previous administration just one day ahead of the end of their term. However, the Anti Corruption Commission intervened and brought to a halt the issuance of flats after receiving multiple complaints regarding how the flats had been awarded.

The commission then conducted a two month long investigation, through which they found that 60 percent of the recipients on that list were wrongfully awarded flats as they did not meet the necessary criteria.

The ACC then instructed the Housing Ministry to review the list.

The current government cited multiple dates for the publishing of the final list of recipients last year, and on November 16 postponed it indefinitely.

These 4000 flats are being allocated to residents of Male' who have lived in the capital for a minimum of 15 years. The flats include 2,712 three room apartments, and 1,188 two room apartments.
