Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the Male' City Council receives cooperation from the current administration.

Speaking at the 'Laamarukazee Gulhun' conference organized by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Haa Dhaalu Atoll Kulhudhuhfushi, Azim stated that, to date, no obstacles had been posed by the government in fulfilling the work of the council in capital Male' city.

Azim, also a member of MDP, also revealed that so far in his mayorship, consultant positions have been granted through the council to 15 persons from MDP.

"Everything I ask for is done through the council. When I wanted consultants, there are now 15 consultants. They are members of our party, not just one," he said.

MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, who was chairing the conference, responded to this statement by asking Male' City Council Media Official Aminath Shathufa to remove mention of 15 MDP consultants when sharing Azim's statement on social media. Shathufa, at the time, was taking video footage of Azim's statement.

As reported in Mihaaru News, each consultant is given a monthly salary of MVR 30,000 and above.

Azim said that despite the council majority being held by ruling People's National Congress members, they too offer cooperation in the council's work. As council meetings are aired live, it would be difficult to oppose initiatives that will benefit the public, Azim said.

Azim asserted that his aim is to fulfill work that will benefit the public during his time as Mayor.

He went on to confirm that work on the cat facility in Hulhumale' will also reach completion by the end of November.

Azim said that his work at the council is conducted in collaboration with all members.
