Chief Superintendent of Police, Mohamed Dawood has been promoted to the position of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) yesterday.

His letter of appointment was presented by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan.

ACP is the highest stage of administrative promotions, with the two ranks above; Police Commissioner and Deputy Police Commissioner appointed by the President.

Dawood currently serves as the Head of Hulhumale' Police Station. Besides fulfilling the role of Detective Investigation Officer, Dawood has also previously held the positions of Head of Road Police and Deputy Head of the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) as well.

He was also among the list of officers who were dismissed from the Police Board incepted amid the former administration of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in 2021 to reform the agency.

The letter of notice signed by then Home Minister Imran Abdulla had attributed the reason for dismissal to a case investigated by the police board under the institution's new governing framework.

Dawood had filed a lawsuit at the Civil Court regarding the dismissal alongside five additional officers who were discharged from their respective managerial ranks.

Civil Court ruled in their favor at the time, decreeing to nullify their dismissals. The State had then appealed this verdict to reinstate the six officers into their former roles at the High Court.
