Maldives Immigration has detained fourteen expatriates for living and working in the country against laws and regulations.

In a post on social media X today, Immigration said that two accommodation blocks in Hulhumale' had been inspected due to public safety concerns.

The fourteen expatriates were detained from these places. Nine men were detained from the first residence, and three women and two men were detained from the other.

Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has said in November that by then, approximately 5000 expatriates had been detained and deported for breaking immigration laws.

These include expatriates who did not hold valid work visas, and some who had engaged in various criminal activities. This includes theft and robbery, drugs, and prostitution.
