The reconstructed part of Ameenee Magu has been opened to the public.

So far, asphalt has been laid from the eastern-most point of the road joining Boduthakurufaanu Magu, to the main headquarters of the State Electric Company (STELCO). The work was subcontracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has already drawn traffic lines and signs on the reconstructed portions of the road.

While the reconstructed parts have been opened to the public, RDC said it had to temporarily close Moonimaa Hingun due to ongoing finishing works, including the installation of a stormwater system.

The road redevelopment project was initially contracted to Malé City Council and later to RDC. Due to the delays RDC faced in laying asphalt, this component of the project was subcontracted to MTCC.

Even though MTCC finished laying asphalt more than two weeks ago, the road has not been opened yet, which has led to public criticism.

The road was closed to the public in mid-2022. The government contracted the redevelopment project in July last year with a 10-month completion period; however, shortly after, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure said the project will not finish within the projected duration.

The government then announced that asphalt would be laid up to Imaduddin School before Ramadan, which is set to begin on March 23. However, recently, the State Minister of the Housing Ministry, Akram Kamaluddin, has said the entire project will likely be completed by May 2023.
