Amendments have been brought to the State pay framework so as to stipulate that attendance allowance must be paid to staff who report to work during the last ten days of Ramadan, which have been declared a government holiday.
National Pay Commission said yesterday that staff who have been changed to the State pay framework must be paid attendance allowance from Ramadan 20 onwards for all working days even if they do not physically attend office.
As per overtime pay, the amendment states that the 20th until the end of Ramadan, and official holidays on the calendar, and public holidays declared by the President's Office, should not be included in the 10 percent for overtime pay. However, overtime pay must be given to staff who are made to work on these days, the commission said.
Also added was that the last ten days of Ramadan are to be considered official holidays as stated in the Employment Act, and as such an allowance equal to half of salary must be paid for working on official holidays, as said in Article 38 of the Act.
This does not include staff exempted in Article 34 (a) of the Act. These include those who work in emergency situations, those who work in airplanes and sea vessels, resorts, industrial islands, and senior management positions.
