The contract, valued at MVR 11.9 million, has been awarded to SUNWILL Pvt Ltd, with the project expected to be completed within 175 days.
An agreement has been signed for the construction of a new power plant, customer service building, and boundary wall in Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo.
The contract, valued at MVR 11.9 million, has been awarded to SUNWILL Pvt Ltd, with the project expected to be completed within 175 days.
The signing ceremony took place at STELCO yesterday, with STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy signing on behalf of the company, while SUNWILL Pvt Ltd Managing Director Abdullah Rafiu signed on behalf of the contractor.
The event was attended by Thulusdhoo MP Ibrahim Naseem and Island Council President Aslam Moosa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Fahmy said that Thulusdhoo was the first island outside Male' area to come under the company’s service after its establishment.
While the existing powerhouse is of good quality, its location in a residential area has prompted the decision to relocate it to a newly reclaimed area.
Fahmy said that this move aligns with STELCO’s policy of positioning powerhouses away from urban centers to minimize disruptions to the community.
Thulusdhoo MP Ibrahim Naseem acknowledged the island’s ongoing challenges with electricity supply, particularly during peak periods such as Eid.
He expressed hope that the new power plant would address these issues and improve the reliability of electricity services for the island’s residents.
