Social media activist Ahmed Ashraf, known as Shumba Gong, has been apprehended for purportedly restraining and committing acts of violence against an individual accused of covertly filming children's videos using concealed cameras.
The authorities, without disclosing any specific identities, confirmed the arrest of a local resident after receiving a report of a disturbance on Keneree Magu at 10 p.m last night. Further investigations are currently in progress.
Mohamed Haleem, the legal representative of Shumba and a member of the Maldives Third Way Democrats (MTD) Council, posted a tweet stating that Shumba was taken into custody following his arrival at the location to confirm reports of a crowd gathering there. The lawyer contended that Shumba had not engaged in any acts of violence.
A photograph circulating on social media shows a military personnel accused of clandestinely installing cameras in the rooms of underage girls and recording videos. Images of the individual being apprehended by members of the public on Keneree Magu have also been disseminated. Law enforcement authorities have yet to comment on the allegations against this individual.
