Aasandha has today commenced offering coverage for medical procedures in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
Aasandha has signed agreements to offer services at one hospital in the UAE and two in Thailand. These are Burjeel Medical City (BMC) in Abu Dhabi and World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok.
In a press briefing today, Aasandha said that at present, only patients who require kidney transfers will be sent to UAE. They said that this is because under a special provision of UAE's Health Council, a Maldivian or a muslim will be permitted to use distant donors who may not be first degreed donors.
In the case of Thailand, priority will be given to persons getting treatments for long-term ailments, Aasandha said.
They said that medical trips to Thailand and UAE will be arranged under the same referral system currently used for India and Sri Lanka as well.
Under existing policies, Aasandha provides coverage for medical expenses, return tickets, food and accommodation in eligible cases. For those traveling to UAE for kidney transplants, Aasandha will provide tickets and accommodation coverage for the donor as well.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had announced the introduction of Aasandha coverage in UAE and Thailand last January.
Fifty seven foreign hospitals are currently empanelled in Aasandha. As of now, services have been provided from 49 hospitals in India and 8 in Sri Lanka.
