Immigration Officer impersonator placed in custody for 10 days

A man arrested yesterday for posing as an Immigration Officer and stealing from expatriates has been placed in remand in custody for a period of ten days by the Criminal Court.

A man arrested yesterday for posing as an Immigration Officer and stealing from expatriates has been placed in remand in custody for a period of ten days by the Criminal Court.

Three men had impersonated an Immigration Officer and entered a residence in Male' which is used as accommodation for expatriates. Once inside, they had stolen a mobile phone and MVR 9,000 from a Bangladeshi national.

In relation to this case, Mohamed Naveen, 44, of Galolhu Beruge was taken under arrest yesterday under a court order. He has now been placed in remand in custody for ten days.

Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamaan Waheed posted on X stating that officers involved in Maldives' Immigration's special operations would always be in official uniform. He added that such officers would also have their identity cards displayed on their uniforms.
