Indian authorities have seized 30 kg of hashish oil that was being smuggled into Maldives from India.

Indian newspapers reported that the country’s Coast Guard and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carried out the operation on March 5, intercepting a tugboat en route from Tuticorin to Male'.

The seized drugs have an estimated street value of MVR 58 million (INR 33 crore).

Acting on a tip-off, the Indian Coast Guard stopped the vessel in the Gulf of Mannar and later escorted it back to the port of Tuticorin for further investigation.

Narcotics seized in the operation

The country’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the confiscated drugs were identified as hashish oil.

The nine crew members aboard the tugboat have been handed over to the DRI.

Earlier in January, Indian authorities arrested four individuals attempting to smuggle 12 kg of hashish oil to Maldives on a yacht.
