Application for the position of Member of Maldives Broadcasting Commission has been reopened.

As the terms of Broadcasting Commission President Mariyam Waheedha and Member Ali Yoosuf, two of the seven members, expires next month, applications were initially opened on Monday.

An announcement by the President's Office today, stated that the previous call for applications has been cancelled. The new deadline for submitting applications is December 9 at 12:00 hrs.

Nominations for such posts are typically announced a month before the expiry of the terms of members of independent institutions.

Earlier, Thulhaadhoo MP Abdul Hannaan introduced a bill proposing the formulation of a media commission to replace the Broadcasting Commission and the Maldives Media Council, which regulates online media.

The bill, which raised concerns among journalists, was later withdrawn after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that he did not support the bill to be passed.
