Rafiu offers thanks on Mahloof's final day as Minister

Abdulla Rafiu (Raappe'), believed to be President Elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu's future appointee to the Sports Minister position, has offered thanks to current Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof for all the work he has conducted in the field during the tenure of the outgoing administration.

Rafiu joined Mahloof in attending an event held on Thursday by China President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy Shen Yiqin. The event was held at the Social Centre to meet with the Maldives' Table Tennis team.

Speaking at the event, Mahloof expressed his wishes for the incoming administration and the Sports Ministry to achieve every success going forward.

"It is my request that the next administration continue and maintain the positive changes this administration has brought to the field of sports," Mahloof said.

Rafiu said that in order to reach the desired target in the sports field, Maldives' needs to adopt a high performance training philosophy.

"The path to achieve recognition and high statuses in sports in Asia and globally is for us to establish a high performance training philosophy," Rafiu said.

Rafiu is a member of the Sports Medicine Committee of the international swimming federation World Aquatics.

He went on to emphasize the various assistance provided by China in the sports field in Maldives.

In addition to the TT Team, basketball and badminton players also participated in the meeting. TT Association President Ali Rasheed (Ayya) and Basketball Association President Ahmed Aadham (Adam) also gave speeches. Badminton Association was represented with a speech from player Ahmed Daniel Ashraf.

All the associations expressed appreciation to China for their support in further developing the sports in the Maldives.

Special Envoy Shen Yiqin assured that the country would continue to support sports development efforts through athlete exchange programmes, trainings and arranging capable coaches.

Ambassador of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin also joined the meeting.
