Speaking ahead of their AFC Asian Cup qualifier against the Philippines in Shillong next week, Suzain noted that India and Maldives remain the strongest teams in the region.
Maldives football coach Ali Suzain said that tonight's friendly match against India is important for both the team and the Maldivian people.
Speaking ahead of their AFC Asian Cup qualifier against the Philippines in Shillong next week, Suzain noted that India and Maldives remain the strongest teams in the region.
"India and Maldives are the strongest teams in the region right now. This match is very important for us and the people of Maldives," he said.
The Maldivian team endured a two-day journey to Shillong but has now settled in. Suzain acknowledged the travel difficulties but assured that the team is prepared.
"The main problem was the travel. We got here after a two-day journey, but now we are calm, and everything is manageable," he said.
The match, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, kicked off at 6:30 PM local time and was broadcast live on Yes TV.
This encounter marked the first match between Maldives and India in three years.
Their last meeting was in October 2021 at the SAFF Championship in Male', where Maldives, under Suzain’s coaching, secured a 3-1 victory.
