Pres Solih in Addu, Speaker Nasheed in Laamu for MDP primary campaign

The two candidates contesting in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s presidential primary have travelled to the Maldives’ south this weekend for their respective campaigns.

MDP’s President and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed is currently in Laamu atoll, while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be departing to Addu City on Friday evening.

Nasheed held a rally in Malé ‘Raalhugandu’ on Thursday night, and travelled to Kadhdhoo Airport in Laamu atoll this morning. His first stop was Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo where he went door-to-door, visiting the locals. Nasheed was accompanied by Laamu Atoll Council President Ismail Ali.

As part of his campaign trip to Addu City, Solih will visit Feydhoo district, where he is scheduled to give a speech. He will also travel through the districts of the predominantly MDP city and pay visits to people's homes, according to his campaign team.

While in Addu City, the President will also attend official engagements, including the closing ceremony for police training and the ceremony held to mark the 50th anniversary of Feydhoo School.

In 2018, MDP and the ruling coalition held their final campaign rally for the presidential election in Addu City.

MDP’s primary election is scheduled to be held on January 28.
