President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized on Thursday that citizens can only fully benefit from development if the nation remains stable, a condition he pledged to uphold during his presidency.

Speaking at a meeting held in GA. Maamendhoo as part of his southern atolls tour, the President noted that citizens seek infrastructure development, including harbors and roads. However, he stressed that the government aims to deliver meaningful and lasting progress.

Dr. Muizzu stated that achieving genuine stability while pursuing development is a primary goal. Highlighting the government's efforts over the past 14 months, he asserted that stability has been established in the country without any acts of retaliation.

“We have not engaged in any form of revenge. I do not believe in harming anyone due to political differences, nor in arresting or harassing individuals for their political beliefs. I promised to avoid such practices, and I continue to honor that commitment,” the President said during the meeting, held at the harbor area.

The President reiterated that his administration will not engage in political persecution or retaliation. This approach, he explained, is essential for maintaining stability.

“To truly benefit from development, the nation must remain stable. I urge citizens to work together to preserve this stability,” Dr. Muizzu said.

He also warned against any attempts to disrupt the nation’s stability, pledging to act decisively in the national interest to prevent such actions.

The President expressed a vision of creating prosperous opportunities for the youth and advancing as a proud, independent nation.

“Our policies are rooted in managing the country independently while maintaining friendly relations with nations that respect our independence and sovereignty. Collaborating with any country for mutual benefit is in the interest of all citizens,” he stated.

During the meeting, President Muizzu addressed concerns raised by the Maamendhoo Island Council and outlined development plans for the community. These include resuming work on the sewerage system, providing temporary fixes for damaged roads until permanent solutions are implemented, and protecting areas affected by erosion.

He also emphasized the importance of expanding the health center and school facilities, as well as establishing sports facilities for youth—initiatives included in this year’s budget.

President Muizzu highlighted that solving housing issues is a key focus of this year’s budget. He encouraged citizens to take advantage of the newly introduced 5% interest housing loans, which aim to provide housing solutions for all within the next five years through government initiatives and projects.

“Our top priority is ensuring housing for every citizen in need,” he said.

The President concluded by urging citizens to cooperate in maintaining stability and contributing to the nation’s progress.
