Chairman of Avid College Abdulla Musthtag Rashaad said yesterday that they have bought the Flying School previously operated by Sri Lankan company Asian Academy of Aeronautics (AAA).

He said Avid College bought the Flying School on June 24, and has since established a flying school under the name Avid School of Aviation (ASA).

Addu International Airport (AIS) had informed AAA they decided not to extend the contract made with them, and asked to vacate the premises last week.

When ASA met with AIA on this matter, they too were told the contract cannot be extended and they won't be allowed to use the buildings previously used by AAA.

Avid College's ASA will have to act as per the agreements previously made with AAA. If given the opportunity, they submit their own proposals. Musthag noted they were not provided this option.

The biggest obstacle ASA faces is having to change premises where the flying school is operated. Even though Musthag would prefer to stay there, due to limited options it may not be possible.

Mushtag said he is willing to move the flying school to another place in Addu or in another southern atoll as well.

Avid College is currently working to ensure they obtain the required license required to operate a flying school. However, as this may take up as much as six months sometimes, they will be using AAA's license in the meantime.
