Addu International Airport Company (AIA) announced that three parties submitted proposals to take over the flying school operations in Gan, Addu Atoll.

A spokesperson from AIA explained that a total of eight companies expressed interest after bidding opened last July. However, only three submitted proposals by the time the deadline for submitting Expression of Interest (EOI) expired on August 4, he said.

Among those that submitted EIO's were an English company and a Sri Lankan company already operating a flying school in Gan.

The spokesperson revealed that although the proposals were received, there is currently no administrative progress on the matter. He added that details about the bidding process will be disclosed within this month.

AIA is seeking a contractor to operate a flying school in Gan after Asian Academy of Aeronautics (AAA) announced that the flying school currently operated by them will be shut down in July 2020. This decision came after negotiations to re-sign agreements to continue AAA's operations at the flying school fell through.

According to AAA, the main reason for closing their operations in Addu is the high land lease cost demanded by AIA.
