With Maldives being an island nation enveloped by the ocean, most of Maldivians' day to day life is directly tied with sea travel. This makes accessibility to reliable sea vessels and high speed and economical engines a dire necessity. Ones which are fit for the deep blue waters of the Maldives, and come with easy repair options.
One such engine is the Weichai engine, a product of one of the biggest engine manufacturers, which is now available at Leo Trading.
Customers would also not have to wait long months to receive their engines from Leo Trading, a logistics company that mainly works in the field of operating heavy vehicles. In fact, the engines are now available for instant purchase from the company's showroom in Hulhumalé.
This is the only showroom in the country which offers instant purchase of engines.
Ismail Naseer, who recently got Weichai engines from the store for Travel Traders Maldives, also highlighted this very same point - the immediate availability of products.
Ismail Naseer called Leo Trading after his Safari's gear box broke down. Naseer said when he called Leo Traders' Managing Director to inquire about the availability of gear boxes, he was nudged towards a better engine that wouldn't break down every once in a while. It was on that phone call that Naseer found out that Leo Trading was selling the Weichai engines, and that it would be installed onto his boat within just five days.

At the moment, there are nine engine sizes available for immediate purchase at Leo Trading's showroom, randing from 34 horsepower to 650 horsepower. The Weichai engines are also 50 to 60 percent more affordable than the engines currently available on market, while also being 30 percent more fuel efficient than other engines.
Leo Trading's Managing Director Abdulla Sawad describes the Weichai engines as the best out there, and one that could be used long term.
"Before we started selling the Weichai engines, I personally experienced using it. We took over the sale of this engine after many studies, because we believe that it is the best engine for Maldives. Weichai is the number one engine in the days to come," Sawad vouched, adding that there is no reason not to buy the engine.
"In terms of price, or even cost, this is the best engine. We also have the engine's spare [parts], engine installation, repair and maintenance services and facilities. We're offering a total solution," he said.
This total solution's reassurance also comes with the fact that Leo Trading has its own tug boats and landing crafts, which would allow the company to directly reach the customers out at sea.
The company also has a boat yard at Thilafushi where the maintenance and repair work, such as water blasting, carpentry and fibreglass work, can be carried out. This makes Leo Trading the only company to offer services at this capacity.
Leo Trandings' Technical Manager Ahmed Shifan said that they will be able to provide everything their customers need - even the smallest screws.
"We're not just selling engines. Our showroom also sells everything from engine spares, engine lube oil, steering wheels, paint and generators in a variety of sizes," he said.
In addition to the engines and its spares, the show room offers a range of marine generators from 20 kilowatts to 110 kilowatts. There are also sound proof land based generators ranging from 12 to 200 kilowatts.
With all these facilities and products, Leo Trading, which also has two industrial hardware outlets in Hulhumalé and Thilafushi, aims to further expand its operations. This includes working with Weichai to develop human resources, and expanding the variety of Weichai products sold at Leo Trading.
The company's ultimate goal, however, is to make Weichai a the number one engine trusted by Maldivians.
