Male' Mayoral Election: Azim wins by a large margin!

Elections Commission has publicized the provisional results of the Male' Mayor election.

Voting for the Male' Mayor elections started at 8am and concluded at 5pm today. Fifty five vote boxes were placed in Male', VilliMale' and Hulhumale'.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Adam Azim won the election, with his closest contender being People's National Congress candidate Azima Shakoor.

Provisional Results as announced by EC

Adam Azim won the mayoral seat, receiving 2590 votes more than his closest opponent, Azima Shakoor.

Candidate 1: Shuaib Ali (Independent) - 125 votes

Candidate 2: Hussain Waheed (Independent) - 1888 votes

Candidate 3: Aishath Azima Shakoor (PNC) - 5031 votes

Candidate 4: Adam Azim (MDP) - 7621 votes

Candidate 5: Mohamed Saif Fathih (The Democrats) - 2343 votes

The statistics published by the Elections Commission show that 54,680 persons were eligible to vote in the Male' mayoral elections. However, only 17,410 people turned up to vote, which only amounts to 31.84 percent of the electorate. Out of these, 402 votes were deemed invalid.

As of 19:45hrs -

41 vote boxes have been counted so far and temporary results announced.

MDP Candidate Ali Azim has received a total of 5,303 votes.

The closest contender is PNC's Azima Shakoor with 3301 votes.

The Democrat's candidate Saif Fathih received 3301 votes.

Independent candidate Hussain Waheed received 1326 votes.

Also independently contesting, Shuaib Ali received 91 votes.

As per the statistics released by the Elections Commission, 56,0002 persons have the right to vote in this election. However, voter turnout barely reached 30 percent.

As of 19:30hrs -

Azim (MDP) has won 45.51% of total votes with 4575 votes. Azima (PNC) has won 28.9 percent with 2305 votes.

The Democrats' candidate Saif Fathih has received 1407 votes, claiming 14 percent.

Independent candidates Hussain Waheed has received 1092 (10.86 percent) votes and Shuaib Ali has received 73 votes (0.73 percent).
