The remaining 41 of the 60 expatriates who fled to Maduvvari in Raa atoll upon hearing Maldives Immigration officials are visiting the resort where they work have now been found and sent back to their place of work.
Immigration officials were set to visit Emerald Resort for an inspection. From the resort, 60 expatriates believed to be working illegally in the country fled to nearby Maduvvari island on speed boats and hid away on the island in a bid to evade Immigration officials.
Initially, 19 of them were caught on the same day and made to return to their resort.
The remaining 41 hid from authorities with the aid of other expatriates on the island, thereby making it difficult to locate them.
Maduvvari Council President Mohamed Sodiq said that these 41 individuals have also been found now with assistance from Police. All have been returned to the resort they came from.
It is so far unclear whether Maldives Immigration have now gone to the resort to take into detention those breaking immigration laws.
A Maduvvari Council official claims that Emerald Resort has been known to employ undocumented expatriate workers even previously.
