Road Development Corporation (RDC), has said they are preparing to begin asphalt work in Ameenee Magu in March 2023 as the equipment needed for the work has arrived in the Maldives.

An official from the company told Mihaaru News today that all the equipment required has now been brought to Malé, and all necessary preparations for laying the road from Billabong School are expected to start in March.

Two out of 13 segments of Ameenee Magu construction is already underway. All work has been completed except the paving of the first segment. The second segment is being constructed by closing the road from Kalaafaanu School to State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) building.

The state had earlier said that asphalt work would start after completion of road pavement work up to Billabong School. Ameenee Magu road development project will be carried out in two phases.

However, some people alleged that the work had not started back then because there was no asphalt laying equipment available in Maldives.

Vehicles have now been allowed to enter the road from the Boduthakurufaanu magu and Ameenee Magu intersection to the Irudheymaa Hingun and Ameenee Magu intersection.

The Planning Ministry awarded the contract to RDC on July 3 last year. Practical work started on August 30 last year and the project was given a deadline of 10 months to complete.

There are five months left to complete the Ameenee Magu reconstruction project.

The MVR 84 million state-funded project includes laying of asphalt across 1.7 kilometres of road as well as the installation of a water drainage network.
