The new academic year is se t to begin on Monday, April 7.
Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu has assured that all schools will have their full complement of teachers and that students will receive their complete set of textbooks before the new academic year begins on Monday.
Speaking to Mihaaru News, Minister Shafeeu addressed concerns from parents who have long expressed frustration over delays in textbook distribution at the start of the school year.
He stated that the government began distributing books to schools in Male' and the atolls a month ago.
While there were delays in sending books for grades 4 and 5 to some islands, the minister confirmed that these books are now being shipped and will be distributed within the next two days.
"Only some books for grades 4 and 5 [remain to be delivered]. All other grades have already received their textbooks," Minister Shafeeu said.
The academic year, which ended on February 25, coincided with Ramadan. Although schools typically reopen on a Sunday, this year’s start was delayed to Monday due to the extended Eid holidays.
The new academic year is scheduled to conclude on December 28.
