1,374 pocket parking slots in Hulhumale' up for lease

Housing Development Corporation (HDC), on Tuesday, began leasing pocket parking spaces for one year from parking zones established in Hulhumale' to resolve escalated parking issues in the district.

HDC said that vehicle owners can apply for 1,374 pockets from eight parking zones located in Hulhumale'. The monthly rent for parking spaces allocated for four wheeled vehicles such as cars and trucks for a period of one year has been set at MVR 2,000.

All Maldivian nationals above 18 years of age, who own a vehicle registered under category B1 or C1 in the Greater Male' region are eligible to apply for the parking pockets. The applicant must also reside in the Male' region, added HDC.

The first priority in allocation of these parking spaces will be conferred to vehicles registered in Hulhumale', explained HDC, with all vehicles listed in the Male' area besides Hulhumale' offered parking slots afterwards.

Priority order for parking space allocation in both categories

1. Hulhumale' residents who live near the applied parking zone

2. Hulhumale' residents who reside in an area besides the applied parking zone

3. Residents who live in the Male' area (besides Hulhumale')

A draw will be held among eligible applicants to select recipients of the parking spaces.

The window to apply for the parking spaces has been extended until the end of the September. Application forms can be submitted to HDC reception counter between 09:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs of each working day, said the company.

HDC further assured that these parking spaces distributed from Hulhumale' will contribute significantly to alleviating escalated vehicle parking issues in the region.
