Dhiraagu presented the winners of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race with cash prizes and certificates.
Dhiraagu has awarded prizes to all the winners of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2024, held on 25th October.
In the special ceremony held last night, Dhiraagu handed over the prize money of MVR 25,000 to the winner of the 21.1 kilometre run category, while MVR 10,000 was presented to the ten and five kilometre open and five kilometre office/resort category. MVR 8,000 was also offered to the runner ups of the categories while MVR 6,000 was given to the second runner ups.
A special gift voucher was also presented to the five kilometre school category winners. These include the MVR 5,000 gift voucher and the MVR 3,000 voucher for the runner up. An MVR 1,000 voucher was also handed to the second runner up.
At the ceremony, Dhiraagu also presented certificates to the first, second and third place winners in the 45-50 year old, 51 to 55 year old and 56 to 60 year old as well as 61 to 65 year old age group of the 21.1 and ten kilometre categories.
Dhiraagu's CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed spoke at the ceremony and congratulated the winners of the race. He also highlighted the support the race receives each year, and extended his thanks to the participants.
He further said that the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is an event both locally and internationally anticipated, adding that the race is an important component of the company's corporate social responsibility programme's aim towards child protection.
As such, MVR 200,000 was donated by the company to the top five NGOs nominated by participants of the run. Proceeds from the participant's registration fees and nice bib number sales were also awarded to 12 partner NGOs to help kickstart their activities in helping protect children. Each of the top five NGOs received total MVR 80,071 while the remaining 7 NGOs each received MVR 40,071.
In total, MVR 680,850 was distributed to the NGOs.
The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is one of Maldives' largest annual running events. This year marked its 15th Edition, which was held in Hulhumalé's Central Park.
This year, over 4,400 participants registered to participate from 41 countries. Students from 28 schools, including seven schools from within the atolls also participated.
During the ceremony, Dhiraagu also announced that next year's run will be held on 24th October 2024.
The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is Maldives' only international race with an athletics certified race route, listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar.
