Elections Commission has begun transporting ballot papers, and other necessary election related material, to the atolls in preparation for the Parliamentary Election scheduled to be held on April 21.

The commission said that these efforts were commenced at 04:00 hrs early this morning.

Shaviyani, Noonu, Raa, Baa and Lhaviyani atolls will be receiving the vote related materials today.

The Commission confirmed that the ballot papers and other material are transported to vote centers under the care of Police, within the strictest safety measures.

The total number of ballot papers printed for this election are 287,462.

The total number of eligible voters for this election are 284,663: 145,302 men and 139, 361 women.

A total of 368 candidates are contesting in 93 constituencies. Of these, 130 are independent candidates.

The remaining are from seven political parties. 216 of these are men, and 22 are women.

Over 600 ballot boxes will be placed in this election, including in three locations abroad. These are Colombo, Sri Lanka, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Trivandrum, India.
