The driver arrested for the hit and run on a police officer last Saturday has been remanded in custody for 10 days. The other individual in the car was arrested at an earlier date and remanded for 15 days in custody.
The Court has approved a 10 day remand period today for the person arrested yesterday in relation to attempting to run over a police officer.
This individual arrested on Saturday evening was the driver of the vehicle. Police said that the arrestee was remanded in custody for 10 days once summoned to the court today.
Two individuals had attempted to flee in a car last Saturday evening when police arrived at the scene in Hulhumale' phase 1 following reports of violence in the area.
When a police officer intercepted the car by standing in front of it and requesting it to stop, the car initially idled. However, once the police officer moved to the side of the car, the individuals inside attempted to flee the scene, running over the officer's leg in the process. According to the police, when the car tried to reverse, the officer managed to get up and attempted to stop the vehicle by grabbing the steering wheel.
Two other officers on motorbikes in the area had also attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car veered past the motorcycles and sped away. One of the individuals inside the car was arrested on the same day and has been remanded for 15 days.
