President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Wednesday, conveyed his condolences to the presidents of Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique, three countries that were heavily impacted by Cyclone Idai.
Making landfall in Mozambique on March 4, the storm then barreled through Zimbabwe and Malawi, leaving a confirmed 300 dead, severely injured or displaced in its wake. Destroying critical infrastructure in all three South African countries, the estimated death toll of Cyclone Idai is well above 1000.
President Solih praised the tenacity and resilience of the people of the three South African countries effected by the cyclone.
Additionally, the president expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased on behalf of himself and the Maldivian people.
At present, national governments, NGO's and international organisations including the United Nations (UN) and the World Food Programme (WFP) are carrying out rescue and relief operations.
