Ministry of Education extended aid of MVR 1.5 million from the Zakat Fund to private-sector preschools and Qur’an classes in order to assist with the financial difficulties they are facing due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The ministry confirmed on Monday that MVR 1 million was disbursed to 25 preschools while MVR 500,000 was handed over to 23 Qur’an classes.
According to the ministry, the establishments that received the funds were chosen based on the requests lodged at authorities, through a point system under the policy to provide financial assistance.
The policy states that financial aid will only be extended to establishments registered at the Education Ministry or Pension Office that had submitted their 2019 annual report to the ministry.
As per the report publicised by Education Ministry regarding the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, preschools are amongst the most affected educational institutions.
