'Zakat House' launched as central hub for Zakat operations

Zakat House has been launched to ensure that the most deserving people of Zakat receive its benefits in a proper manner.

The Zakat House was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at the Islamic Center. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and government ministers were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that a fulfilling society will be built in the light of Zakat House through a fair and transparent system of Zakat and charity, utilizing modern technology.

He said that Zakat House is being established to raise awareness among the people, enhance academic research, and expand the initiative across the country.

Minister Shaheem also expressed gratitude to President Muizzu for prioritizing Zakat in his manifesto and for his efforts to establish the Zakat House.

The logo and colors of the Zakat House were unveiled during the ceremony. Additionally, a video report highlighting the importance of Zakat was presented.

Zakat House will facilitate the acceptance of Zakat, distributing Zakat to eligible individuals, declaring nisab Zakat rates, and maintaining a register of the poor and needy.

The institution's mandate also includes working to develop and promote the Zakat Fund in a sustainable manner, as well as establishing and publicizing its basic standards.

Zakat House is also tasked with identifying, researching, and collaboratively addressing issues related to Zakat in the Maldives.
