President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the opposition is trying to pin false allegations on him, remarking that they would not be successful in their efforts to slander him.

The President's comments come at a time when the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has made serious allegations against the government and the President himself.

The President responded to the allegations in his speech at the opening of a campaign space for Ibrahim Mohamed (Ibuti), who is contesting for the South Galolhu constituency under the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) ticket for Tuesday's Majlis Elections.

Referring to various accusatory statements made by the opposition in recent weeks, President Dr Muizzu said they were resorting to slander as they knew his administration would fulfill promises made to the people. He added that they would not be successful in pinning these allegations on him.

"They are making up all kinds of lies. They keep trying to pin it on me but it's not working. I am a person who only makes truthful promises. The people now believe that when I do make promises, I make a point to fulfil them faithfully with honesty and integrity," said the President.

He added that the proof was in how his administration had managed to complete all the work they possibly could over the past five months.

"If nothing else works, they [the opposition] will be resorting to their usual techniques. Left with no other choices, they have tried to slander my name and reputation before in the final moments leading up to the Mayoral elections as well," said the President.

"The people of Malé did not believe it then," said President Dr Muizzu. "They took me and questioned me over a number of cases, they took me to trial, but none of it has been proven in court."

President Dr Muizzu also noted that people had not bought into the deception and defamation thrown around with regards to his character in the run-up to the Presidential Elections last year, adding that the opposition were still trying to challenge his reputation and pin false allegations on him.

While the President continues to assert there is no basis to the opposition's slander against him, an unmarked and undated draft report believed to showcase the results of a police intelligence investigation against President Dr Muizzu has been making rounds on social media. The report includes highly-personal information regarding the President, including the income he makes as a landlord from tenants at his rowhouse in Hulhumalé, along with details on the value of property the President has inherited from his father. President Dr Muizzu maintains that the opposition would not be able to find anything against him from the report.

The President has assured that he would not do anything that would harm the people of Maldives, or violate the rule of law and order in the country.

"I want you to continue talking loudly about this. The more you talk, the more exposed you will be," the President said in reference to his opposition.
