The government lifted the suspension of Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof, which was imposed in connection to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) scandal.

The spokesperson of the President's Office, Chief Communications Strategist Ibrahim Hoodh, confirmed that Mahloof’s suspension has ended.

Mahloof, who was suspended on February 14, joined the cabinet meeting held at the President’s Office on Tuesday. However, it has not been revealed yet whether he went to the youth ministry.

During his suspension, the youth ministry was run by Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed.

Mahloof expressed his gratitude towards President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and everyone who placed their trust in him.

He was suspended regarding a money transaction with SOF, a private company linked to the MVR 1.3 billion embezzlement case of MMPRC. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s report revealed a transfer of USD 33,000 into his now-suspended bank account. However, Mahloof insisted that it was a legitimate transaction.

In a statement addressing the accusations against him, he disclosed that the US Dollars transferred from SOF was a money exchange transaction, with his relative acting as the middle man, and that the equivalent was paid in Maldivian Rufiyaa.

ACC investigated the matter upon Mahloof’s request and found no issue. However, the President’s Office stated that the government has not concluded its probes into the issues.
