Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) coalition has postponed their parliamentary primaries to January 27.

This is the second time that the coalition has delayed the primaries for the parliamentary elections slated to be held on March 17.

PNC primaries were initially set to be held on December 23, 2023. At the time, they rescheduled it for January 20 as they wanted to avoid the December school holidays.

The party has since postponed the primaries again, this time setting the date as January 27.

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has scheduled their primaries for February 3.

The party has also published the names and numbers of the candidates competing in the primaries.

The Elections Commission has announced that the parliamentary elections will be held on March 17. The window for interested candidates to send in applications will be from January 30 to February 14.
