Due to the success of the TT center established in Fuvahmulah City two years ago, Vice President of TTAM announced that similar developmental programs will be proceeded in other islands as well.
Vice President of the Table Tennis Association of Maldives (TTAM), Ibrahim Shiuree declared that the Table Tennis (TT) Development Center opened in Gnaviyani atoll Fuvahmulah City had procured good results and stated that efforts will be extended to establish such centers in other islands as well.
The center in Fuvahmulah City has been conducting trainings together with an Indian coach for nearly two years.
Shiuree stated that the center began to show visible results within a short time since it began operations.
"The children began progressing within two months since training was begun. We saw that potential was there,” he said.
He also remarked that Fuvahmulah players delivered favorable results during their playoffs with Malaysian schools last year.
“Some of these children touched a TT racket for the first time when the training center was opened. Afterwards, they competed in Inter-school competitions and achieved significant victories."
“[We] saw this concept was successful. We are working to begin this concept in some other islands as well this year.”
Over MVR 800,000 has been allocated to establish development programs in atolls from this year’s annual budget of MVR 3.9 million determined by TTAM. In addition to Fuvahmulah, these developmental programs are decided to be established in both Gaaf Dhaalu atoll Thinadhoo and Thaa atoll Thimarafushi.
Moreover, table tennis coaching courses has also been arranged to be carried out in Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi, Raa atoll Ungoofaaru, Lhaviyani atoll Naifaru, Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo, Alif Alif atoll Ukulhas, Gaaf Dhaalu atoll Thinadhoo as well as Fuvahmulah and Addu City.
