A young boy was stabbed and killed in capital Male' during a violent clash between two gangs, in the early hours of Thursday.
Shaffan Shareef, 14, from Feydhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, sustained stab wounds to the throat during the altercation which occurred around 2 a.m. in the Galolhu district of Male'.
Shaffan succumbed to his injuries while he was undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital.
So far, the police have made four arrests over the assault of the underage boy.
While this is the most recent case in a surge of gang violence, a 26-year-old-man who was stabbed in Male' on October 11 remains in critical condition, along with a victim who was stabbed earlier this week in Maradhoo of Addu Atoll.
Police also arrested five men were on Wednesday night, under suspicion of planning to carry out a violent assault.
